SPAOH: The role of Tuai Rumah as key drivers of development and catalysts for change in rural areas continues to gain recognition, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing grassroots community empowerment.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, emphasised that the leadership of the Tuai Rumah is crucial in realising the state’s development aspirations, especially in ensuring that every government policy and initiative effectively reaches the people.
He also urged Tuai Rumah not only to be respected leaders within their communities but also to act as active, trustworthy, and authoritative bridges between the government and the people.
“Tuai Rumah play a vital role in ensuring that the people in their respective areas are not left behind amid rapid development. They are the frontline leaders closest to the community,” he said.
He was speaking at the Merarau Mantar Gawai Dayak 2025 celebration held at the Spaoh Community Hall today.
The colourful annual event also saw the presentation of reappointment letters to several Tuai Rumah as a gesture of appreciation for their contributions to strengthening community leadership.
During the same event, Uggah also touched on the Gabungan Tuai Rumah (GTR) Rimbas Ulu, an initiative established in August 2021 that has become an important platform for coordinating aid and development in remote areas.
“The government wants to ensure that no community, no matter how remote, is left behind.
“Through GTR, we can deliver assistance more systematically and effectively,” said Uggah, while urging GTR members to continue equipping themselves with new knowledge and experience.
He stated that learning from external sources, such as visits to fertigation or hydroponic farms and modern handicraft industries, can open opportunities for rural communities to generate more sustainable income.
“When we learn from success stories elsewhere, we bring that knowledge back and share it with our community. This is the best way to elevate the agricultural sector and rural economy to greater heights,” he added.
He also expressed pride in the spirit of unity and cooperation among the Rimbas Ulu community in making the event a success, which reflects the strength of the Dayak community in preserving their culture and building a brighter future.
