MIRI: The Batu Niah Temple was a hive of activity with the official launching of the Datuk Kong (Na Tuk Kong) shrine, song contest and a Chinese New Year celebration there.
The event, graced by Bekenu assemblywoman Datuk Rosey Yunus, showcased the unity and cultural diversity that defines Sarawak’s harmonious society.
Speaking at the event, Rosey highlighted Sarawak’s unique environment of mutual respect and understanding.
“Sarawak is blessed with harmony, where people are free to practise their religion, beliefs, and culture. This is a testament to the strong sense of unity among our communities,” she said.
Rosey praised the cultural richness of the event, noting the inclusivity demonstrated by the provision of halal food alongside traditional Chinese dishes.
“This reflects the mutual respect and understanding among Sarawakians. We are truly a family, blending cultures and traditions seamlessly,” she added.
Rosey also acknowledged Sarawak’s proactive approach to religious harmony through the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).
“Unifor plays a crucial role in managing affairs related to other religions and places of worship. This is unique to Sarawak and doesn’t exist in other states,” she remarked.
During the event, Rosey announced a Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocation of RM3,838 to Batu Niah Temple.
Additionally, local businessman Lee Eng Kong contributed RM8,383.
Among those present were Penghulu Pui Kuan Phen, Penghulu Choo Chong Yii, Penghulu Ahmad Zaini and local kapitans from Batu Niah, Sepupok, and Bekenu.
