BAU: A routine hike at Mount Singai took an unexpected turn when a hiker required assistance to descend the mountain on Wednesday (April 8).

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a distress call at 12.23pm and dispatched a team from the Bau fire station to the location.

The team arrived at the mountain’s entrance at 12.45pm before proceeding on foot to locate the victim.

The hiker was found resting at Level 13 near the Catholic Memorial Pilgrimage Centre.

Bomba added the victim was conscious and able to walk but required assistance due to fatigue.

Firefighters provided initial treatment at the scene, allowing the victim to rest and administering an energy drink while applying muscle relief spray to the affected leg.

The victim, accompanied by two friends, then descended the mountain slowly on foot under the supervision of the rescue team.

The operation concluded at 3.22pm after the victim was safely brought down to the base of the mountain.
