KUCHING: Lubok Antu Member of Parliament, Roy Angau Gingkoi, who had initially planned to contest the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth Chief post, has instead decided to run for the vice-president position in the upcoming TDC party election in 2025.
Roy made the announcement at a recent PRS dinner with the PRS Bidayuh Zone.
Roy said his decision was influenced by strong support from several divisions urging him to fill the vacancy.
He emphasised that, as a representative of the southern zone, he is committed to championing the interests of the eight Bidayuh constituencies.
He also stressed the importance of ensuring the community’s voices are reflected in the party’s development agenda.
During the dinner, Roy highlighted the need for inclusive and balanced leadership to strengthen Bidayuh participation at the TDC.
Murum Assemblyman, Chukpai Ugon, who is contesting the PRS Youth Chief post, also expressed his support for Roy’s candidacy during the dinner.
Chukpai added that divisions backing him would also support Roy to reinforce the party’s leadership.
In turn, Roy pledged his support for Chukpai’s Youth Chief bid, reflecting a joint effort to ensure balanced representation among the party’s younger leaders.
So far, eight PRS Bidayuh divisions, along with several others, have expressed their support for Roy’s nomination.
Supporters cited confidence in his leadership as a key reason for backing his candidacy.
Roy believes his participation in the election will strengthen PRS’ leadership, particularly in advancing the interests of the southern constituencies.
