SIBU: Nineteen exponents from Rajang Taekwondo Club (RTC) were awarded cash incentive for their outstanding performance at the inaugural Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) National Youth Open Taekwondo Championship held in Selangor last month.

The incentive, contributed by Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker, Alice Lau were presented by her private secretary, Stanley Chiew on her behalf during a ceremony at her Lanang parliamentary service centre on Saturday (15 June).

According to RTC advisor, Thomas Tang, the squad secured a total of 12 gold, three silver and three bronze medals over the two-day tournament.

He said the tournament, sanctioned by Malaysia Kukkiwon Taekwondo Association (MKTA) saw participants from 800 athletes nationwide.

“The tournament was the club’s second participation in a national meet. It is our best performance to date in a national championship, and this outstanding result will certainly inspire our exponents to strive harder and aim higher.

“Last year, our RTC team bagged 12 gold, one silver and three bronze medals at the Grand Master CK Leow Challenge Cup.

“With the same competing in this tournament, we are proud of yet another commendable performance,” he said.
