MIRI: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has intensified enforcement here, inspecting 184 private and commercial vehicles as part of its daily operations and a special Back to School campaign aimed at improving road safety.

The operations, conducted by RTD Miri, involved mobile patrols and monitoring across the city, as well as static enforcement at Jalan Taman Tunku, a busy stretch frequently used by school traffic.

RTD officers detected multiple traffic offences, including failure to wear seatbelts, use of mobile phones while driving, overloading of vehicles and various technical violations. Enforcement action was taken against motorists found to be in breach of road regulations.

The Back to School operation is part of a wider effort to curb risky driving behaviour during the school term, when traffic volumes increase around schools and public areas.

RTD Sarawak has urged all road users to comply with traffic laws, practice responsible driving and prioritise safety, particularly near schools and high-risk zones.
