KUCHING: The Road Transport Department (RTD) seized a luxury vehicle — a Toyota Vellfire — during an enforcement operation targeting luxury vehicles flouting road laws in the city yesterday (Aug 3).
The vehicle was found driven without a valid road tax and insurance coverage. Such offences not only reflect a careless attitude towards legal obligations, but also have the potential to endanger the safety of other road users.
Sarawak RTD said the operation, codenamed Ops Luxury, aims to ensure that all road users —including those driving high-end vehicles — are held to the same legal standards.
“No one is above the law whether you are driving a standard vehicle or a luxury car.
“This operation emphasises the principle of universal justice, that responsibility to obey road regulations applies equally to all to ensure public safety and order,” the department said.
The department also urged all vehicle owners and drivers to ensure their vehicles remain compliant with legal requirements, including valid road tax, insurance coverage, and avoidance of excessive modifications.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility. The law does not discriminate, and there is no luxury in negligence when lives are at stake,” the department said.
Sarawak RTD said such operation will be conducted from time to time to identify and take action against owners and drivers of luxury vehicles who fail to comply with road laws.
