KUCHING: The Road Transport Department (RTD) Sarawak has stepped up enforcement with operations targeting luxury vehicles and motorcycles along Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Rahman Yakub.

The operations, part of RTD’s ongoing efforts to ensure road safety and compliance with traffic laws, were attended by director Norizan Jili, deputy director Mohd Faizal David Jemat, and other division heads.

Their presence highlights the department’s commitment to strict and effective enforcement.

During the operations, 1,229 vehicles were inspected and 322 non-compliance notices issued.

Common offences detected included driving without a valid licence, expired licences, use of unauthorised HID/LED lights, and other technical violations.

A total of 18 vehicles were impounded, including four luxury vehicles – a BMW, two Mercedes-Benz, and a Nissan GTR – mainly for expired road tax and lack of insurance coverage.

Norizan said enforcement like this is crucial not just to catch offenders but also to educate road users and raise awareness about the importance of compliance.

“We will continue such operations regularly to ensure the safety and well-being of all road users,” he said.

The department has pledged to maintain a consistent focus on road law enforcement, underlining its commitment to safe and harmonious roads for the public.
