SARlKEI: The 2025 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) demonstrates the government’s commitment to strengthening basic infrastructure in rural longhouse communities.
Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, said that three longhouses here have been approved for RTP projects.
These include road upgrades, construction of concrete pathways, and improvements to the drainage system, benefiting a total of 38 longhouse units.
Huang, who is also Sarikei Member of Parliament, stressed that good basic facilities are crucial for enhancing the well-being of rural residents while ensuring smooth mobility, safety, and support for the local economy.
“The implementation of these RTP projects reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring rural development is carried out inclusively and in a balanced manner,” he said during a site visit to the RTP project locations today.
Earlier, Huang, represented by Wong Soon Mee along with an Assistant Engineer from the Meradong and Julau District Council, conducted a site visit to the longhouses involved to inspect the project areas, gather feedback from residents, and witness the handover of the project sites.
Among the longhouses included in the projects are Rumah Murieng Kri in Ulu Bakong, Kutak, and Rumah Bagong Usah at Batu 6 Jalan KJD, which will undergo road upgrades to concrete paths.
Meanwhile, Rumah Lawi Chong at Batu 5 Jalan KJD, Bintangor, will undergo drainage system upgrades as well as improvements to the longhouse compound, including the parking area.
According to him, the project is expected to enhance safety, facilitate emergency access, and improve transportation of residents’ agricultural produce.
