MERADONG: A new roofed court at Kai Nguong Methodist Church here is set to be constructed under a Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) project to improve community facilities in the constituency.

Construction works for the RM300,000 project are expected to begin within two weeks of the site handover, with an implementation period of six months and completion scheduled for June 7, 2026.

Meradong assemblyman, Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, said the project reflected the Sarawak Government’s continued efforts to strengthen public facilities and houses of worship in support of community wellbeing.

“I hope that the new roofed court will serve as a long-term asset for the local community, functioning as a centre for activities that foster unity and closer community ties,” he said during a brief site handover ceremony at the church on Thursday.

According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the project was intended to provide a safer and more conducive space to support religious, social and community activities for church members and residents in the surrounding area.

The appointed contractor was reminded to carry out the works in accordance with approved specifications and timelines to ensure quality and timely completion.
