KUCHING: Masjid As-Syuhada at Kem Semenggo will undergo a much-needed upgrade under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2023, following the official handover of the letter of award (LoA) to the appointed contractor, Ixrie Enterprise.

The RM100,000 project, awarded through the “cabut undi” process, was officiated by Kota Sentosa Assemblyman Wilfred Yap during his visit to the project site, accompanied by officers from the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).

The upgrading works will include installing new roofing and ceilings, and rewiring the electrical system to enhance safety and comfort for worshippers, ensuring that the mosque continues to serve as a well-equipped and conducive space for the Muslim community in the area.

Yap said the project reflects the Sarawak government’s commitment to equitable development and the continuous improvement of public infrastructure in both urban and rural areas.

“The RTP initiative demonstrates our government’s dedication under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to uplift community facilities and promote inclusivity in development,” he said.

Additionally, he said he would personally monitor the project’s implementation to ensure it is completed within four months, on schedule, and meets quality standards.

Furthermore, Yap commended the cooperation between MPP officers, community leaders, and the mosque committee in facilitating the project’s coordination.

The RTP 2023 allocation for the Kota Sentosa constituency includes several other infrastructure and community enhancement projects designed to improve residents’ well-being and support sustainable local development.
