MUKAH: The Balingian constituency is set to benefit from 30 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects in 2026.
Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi highlighted RTP as a key initiative by the Sarawak government, under the leadership of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), to empower rural communities during the 2026 RTP Project Proposal Mini Lab for Mukah District at Menara Pehin Setia Raja Mukah on Wednesday (Mar 12).
He said RTP ensures development is not solely focused on urban areas but also extends to rural communities such as those in Balingian.
“To ensure balanced development, RTP projects help bridge the development gap between urban and rural areas in Sarawak.
“And with every RTP project implemented, involving the people and community leaders in the planning process ensures more accurate prioritisation,” he said.
Abdul Yakub further explained that the projects implemented contribute to improving the quality of life for the people in terms of the economy, social well-being, and overall welfare.
“The effectiveness and impact of the projects should genuinely benefit the people and not just be ‘white elephant’ projects,” he stressed.
He also said that cooperation between the government, local authorities, and residents is crucial to ensuring the long-term benefits of the projects.
“With effective implementation and close monitoring, RTP projects will continue to positively impact the people of Balingian, providing them with better facilities and fostering more sustainable and inclusive development.”
