KUALA LUMPUR: The enforcement of the Rukun Tetangga 1975 (Amendment) 2025 Act (Act 751), officially commencing on Wednesday, is an important step in transforming the role of Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (KRT) or Neighbourhood Watch areas to be more dynamic, responsive and effective, said National Unity Minister, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.
In a post on platform X, Aaron said that one of the main focuses of the amendment is the coordination of appointment periods by extending the appointment period of KRT committee members (AJKRT) to ensure continuity of leadership and sustainability of community programme implementation.
He said that the amendment also emphasises the strengthening of the act’s provisions through the improvement of existing provisions to remain relevant to current needs and social challenges at the grassroots level.
“This amendment was approved in the Dewan Rakyat on December 2, 2025, and in the Dewan Negara on December 17, 2025, with the support of the majority of Members of Parliament, thereby reflecting the government’s ongoing commitment to empowering community institutions for the inclusive and harmonious welfare of the people,” he added. – BERNAMA
