KUCHING: The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has issued a clarification following viral social media posts concerning the implementation of the Rumah Sri Pertiwi housing programme in Sarawak.

HDC explained that Rumah Sri Pertiwi was an affordable housing initiative by the Sarawak government targeting households with monthly incomes between RM4,000 and RM10,000.

“HDC wishes to clarify that the Rumah Sri Pertiwi programme is a Sarawak government initiative aimed at providing affordable homes for middle-income earners,” said the corportion in a press statement yesterday (Dec29).

It  further emphasised that the programme’s implementation allowed developments by either government agencies or private sector developers, subject to Sarawak government policies and approvals.

The corporation said its involvement in Rumah Sri Pertiwi projects was limited to selected developments carried out through joint-venture arrangements with relevant parties.

Currently, all Rumah Sri Pertiwi projects involving the corporation through joint ventures remain at the construction stage and have not reached occupancy.

As such, HDC said it was not directly involved in matters related to allocation, rental arrangements or alleged misuse of houses under the programme.

The corporation denied claims circulating online that linked HDC to issues of distribution, leasing or abuse of Rumah Sri Pertiwi units.

It said these allegations were unfounded, inaccurate  and had  the potential to mislead the public and undermine confidence in government housing initiatives.

HDC said it viewed the spread of unverified and misleading information seriously, particularly when it involved public-interest housing programmes.

It urged members of the public to refrain from sharing or amplifying claims that had not been verified through official channels.

It reiterated that accurate and authoritative information regarding Rumah Sri Pertiwi or other housing matters should only be obtained directly from HDC.

Members of the public seeking clarification are advised to contact HDC via its official hotline at 082-444381 for verified information.

Alternatively, official updates and statements can be accessed through HDC’s recognised communication platforms, including its official website.

HDC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and supporting the Sarawak government’s efforts in delivering sustainable and affordable housing solutions.
