KUCHING: The relocation of the Sarawak Land Development Board (SLDB) to its new corporate office marks more than a change in physical space.
It signals a call for transformation in work culture, said Food Industry, Commodities, and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

Speaking at the official launch of SLDB’s new office and logo at the Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) building here today, Dr Rundi reminded SLDB personnel that success must go beyond infrastructure or symbolic change.
“We are not just in a new building; we must also ask ourselves what our contribution is to the responsibilities entrusted to us.
“If our work ethic remains the same, there will be no progress,” he said.
He stressed the importance of discipline, integrity, clear timelines, and setting measurable targets in ensuring the agency’s effectiveness.
“If an initiative yields no meaningful benefit, we must have the courage to drop it. Focus on outcomes and efficiency.
It’s not just about generating income. We must understand how to generate it,” he added.
As an agency at the forefront of land and agricultural development, SLDB, he said, plays a critical role in supporting the state’s broader strategic agenda, especially in strengthening food security.
“With growing global uncertainties such as rice export bans, we cannot afford to depend heavily on food imports. We must step up production and be part of the national solution,” he said.
Dr Rundi also urged SLDB staff to step out of their comfort zones and continuously adapt to changing challenges and expectations.
“Often, we start with enthusiasm but later grow complacent. When our work becomes too routine, it’s time to shake things up. We must dare to rock the boat for a better future,” he said.
The minister’s remarks echoed a broader message of transformation, aligning with the state’s push for innovation, efficiency, and resilience in its development strategies moving toward 2030.
