MORE than a stage for runway shows, Suria KLCC is evolving into a launchpad for Malaysian fashion talent, blending global visibility with sustained backing at a landmark destination beloved by millions.
This year’s Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) 2025 saw the iconic mall once again hosting a showcase of local designers at its Esplanade, attracting attention from both Malaysians and international visitors.
Suria KLCC Sdn Bhd executive director and chief executive officer Francis Tan said the shopping mall saw itself not just as a venue provider but as a long-term partner in helping Malaysian brands grow.
“As you know, we get a lot of traffic not just locals but also a lot of tourists coming to Suria KLCC. So for local designers to be able to showcase their fashion here, they can target not only Malaysia, but also tourists from all over the world,” he told Bernama at the ‘Suria KLCC Presents Sofia Iman’ show held in conjunction with KLFW 2025 here recently.
Tan said the mall’s commitment to local talent extends beyond a one-off showcase and includes ongoing support through marketing and on-ground engagement.
“Today the show is just a first step. They can showcase their creation. Moving forward, we will continue to engage with them.
“They do a lot of in-store events. We will be putting the fashion on social media to help them expose their passion. So it’s an ongoing process,” he said, citing the example of local label Sofia Iman which began as a small promotional tenant and now operates a boutique within the mall.
He said the setup gave local designers a rare chance to showcase their creations in a world-class setting.
“The whole setup is on the Esplanade, right in front of the KLCC fountain, and the backdrop is the Petronas Twin Towers,” he said, adding that a big screen was also installed for the public to watch the show live.
He highlighted the international appeal of the venue, describing it as a source of national pride as the Petronas Twin Towers were an iconic landmark that elevated the event’s status and visibility.
“With fashion being held here with this as a backdrop, you can bring this fashion to the world and put it on the world stage,” he said.
From Aug 4 (yesterday) to Aug 10 the annual fashion event is dialing up the excitement, scale and style for its 13th season, featuring its biggest lineup yet with over 55 designers and brands, made up of anticipated veteran returns, runway rookies and fashion mainstays. – BERNAMA
