SIMANGGANG: Rural communities in Simanggang are set to benefit from improved infrastructure following the official handover of several development project sites under the state’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).
The project handover at the three project sites in Kampung Muhibbah, Rumah Rengkang and Rumah Wiss Juing was witnessed by Sarawak’s Talent Development Deputy Minister cum Simanggang assemblyman, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis on Friday (May 9).
The first handover was for a RM500,000 project to upgrade the drainage system at Darul Syakirin Mosque, Kampung Muhibbah, Sri Aman.
The project, implemented by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Sri Aman Division, will take four months to complete, from April 28 to August 27, following an open tender.
The second project, implemented by the Sri Aman District Council (MDSA), is a RM200,000 roof replacement for Rumah Rengkang in Lepong Empeliau, benefitting 19 families.
Also under MDSA, the third project is a RM100,000 longhouse repair for Rumah Wiss Juing in Paku Ili, awarded to An-Nas Company, which will benefit 17 families and is scheduled for completion from May 9 to August 8.
During the project handover ceremony, Harden urged village heads and longhouse chiefs to inform their communities about the ongoing development projects funded by the Sarawak Government through GPS representatives, which amount to RM5 million annually.
“It is hoped that residents who are aware of these initiatives will share the information with others who were not present, and understand that the GPS-led Sarawak Government remains committed to improving public amenities,” he said.
He also encouraged the rural populace to make full use of the enhanced infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, by venturing into agricultural activities to raise their standard of living.
