SEBAUH: Rural road infrastructure development will be sped up to ensure remote areas such as Ulu Pandan, Ulu Binyo, Tubau, Jelalong, Nanga Tau, and Anap can be directly connected to Sebauh town.
In this regard Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Minister, Datuk Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said a high-impact RM1.171 billion project has been proposed to Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The proposal was floated in discussions with Sebauh District Officer, Thaddeus Ling Bartholomew Allo, and Bintulu Division Resident, Datuk Nyurak Keti, recently.
According to him, the project will ensure better access for rural residents, thus opening up economic opportunities and improving the well-being of the local community.
“The road to the Nicholas Sandom House was a priority in the initial phase, but after re-examination, we found that it did not meet the set requirements.
“Therefore, we have re-tendered this project and it has been awarded to a qualified contractor. Construction work will begin in the near future.
“With this, the road will become an important link to Ulu Sigu and the surrounding area,” he said at the Sebauh Chinese New Year 2025 Unity Dinner organised by the Sebauh Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) at the SJK(C) Chung San Hall, here, on Monday.
“We are doing our best to ensure this project becomes a reality this year. The government understands the needs of the people and is working to ensure that this project can be realised as soon as possible. This is not just infrastructure development, but a step towards a better future for rural communities.
“People may not realise that every application for a development project has to go through various procedures, including at the relevant agency level.
“However, we at the Cabinet level are trying to speed up this process so that the project can be implemented more efficiently,” he explained.
According to Rundi, the planned new roads will not only shorten travel time and improve the safety of road users, but also open up new potential in the agriculture, business, and rural tourism sectors.
