BELAGA: Rural school infrastructure must be addressed urgently to ensure students in the interior are not left behind, says State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.

During a working visit to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tegulang here recently, he highlighted several pressing issues requiring immediate action, including the absence of a school field and ageing teachers’ quarters which have not been upgraded for more than a decade.

“Through this visit, we are able to see the reality on the ground and identify what can be supported.

“Matters such as the school field and maintenance of the quarters will be raised to the higher authorities for further action,” he said.

Abu Bakar emphasised that rural education development goes beyond physical facilities and must also prioritise equal exposure and opportunities for students in the interior.

“I want to see more programmes involving Yayasan Sarawak and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to broaden the horizons of rural students. Such early exposure can enhance their confidence and motivation,” he added.

He stressed that background should never determine a student’s future.

“Many of us came from humble villages with many limitations, but it is effort and determination that shape success. This is the value that must be instilled in rural students,” he said.

At the same time, he expressed appreciation to teachers serving in SK Tegulang, describing postings in remote areas as a significant sacrifice made to ensure children in the interior continue to access quality education.

He also expressed confidence that stronger collaboration between the school, the community and government agencies such as Bintulu Port would further strengthen education development in the area.

“With better coordination between agencies, many pending matters can be implemented,” he said.

During the visit, SK Tegulang also received a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contribution from the Sarawak Government Servants’ Welfare and Sports Council (MAKSAK) Sarawak.
