KANOWIT: Education in rural schools needs to focus more strongly on shaping students’ values and character as part of preparing the next generation for future challenges.

Ngemah state assemblyman, Anyi Jana, said excellence can only be achieved through the combined commitment of students, teachers and parents, each playing a vital role in cultivating discipline, character and leadership.

“Excellence does not happen overnight. It is the result of strong discipline, continuous effort, and the unwavering support of teachers and parents.

“I congratulate the entire SMK Sedaya community for maintaining a culture of excellence in academics, co-curricular activities, and student character development,” he said when officiating the school’s Excellence Awards Ceremony on Thursday.

Anyi added that despite the rapid rise of technology and artificial intelligence (AI), the role of teachers as character builders remains irreplaceable.

He also emphasised the importance of parents as the backbone of moral and emotional support for their children, especially in today’s challenging environment.

“The foundation of education and values begins at home. Despite the challenges they face, parents remain steadfast in ensuring their children receive the best education,” he said.

“Your support is the driving force that keeps them moving forward.”

During the event, Anyi announced a RM20,000 Minor Rural Project grant for the SMK Sedaya Parent-Teacher Association to support school activities next year.
