KUCHING: The Borneo Youth U21 Championship 2026 concluded on a high note after a week of competitive cricket between Sarawak and Sabah.
Hosted by the Sarawak Cricket Association at the Borneo Cricket Ground from June 20 to 27, the championship featured five matches across the Twenty20 (T20) and 50-over formats, with Sabah emerging as the overall champions.
The opening T20 match was abandoned before Sarawak bounced back with a commanding nine-wicket victory in the second fixture.
Sabah responded by winning the third T20 match by eight wickets to level the shorter-format series.
The visitors carried their momentum into the 50-over format, recording consecutive victories by eight wickets and 14 runs respectively to seal the championship.
Although Sabah lifted the trophy, the Sarawak Cricket Association said the tournament provided valuable competitive exposure for young cricketers from both states, continuing the long-standing rivalry between two of Borneo’s strongest cricket programmes.
The association congratulated Sabah on winning the title while commending the Sarawak players for their resilience, determination and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
“A sincere thank you goes out to all players, coaches, match officials, volunteers, supporters, and partners for making this championship a resounding success.
“Together, we continue to strengthen youth cricket and inspire the next generation of cricketers across Borneo”, it said.
