KUCHING: The Sabah contingent for the Borneo Games Kuching (BGK) 2025 has undergone months of intensive preparation as they get ready to showcase their talents on the regional stage.

Sabah Sports Council Deputy Director (Sports Sector) Wong Hsiao Hsien said the team had been preparing rigorously in the lead-up to the competition.

“For this Borneo Games Kuching 2025, the Sabah team has been preparing intensively over the past few months. Each sport has undergone decentralised and centralised training in all our training centres in Sabah,” she said in an UKAS interview today (Sept 23).

She also highlighted the importance of the Borneo Games as a platform for exposure and growth.

“This Borneo Games is very important for our athletes because it provides regional-level exposure and competitive experience, with athletes from outside Malaysia also competing.

“It also strengthens sporting ties between Borneo contingents and friendship. For many of our young athletes, this is a stepping stone before going to national and international championships,” she added.

Leading today’s arrival at Kuching International Airport were the state’s badminton athletes, who will be among Sabah’s strongest medal hopes at the Games.
