Sabah Election: Campaigns shift into high gear

KOTA KINABALU, Sabah: A day after nominations for the 17th Sabah State Election, campaigning across the state has kicked into high gear with national and state leaders, as well as candidates from various political parties, hitting the ground to meet voters in various locations.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) Chairman, continued his working visit and campaign tour in Sabah’s interior by attending the ‘PM Sayang Sabah’ Meet-and-Greet Programme with Community Leaders of Tulid state constituency at Padang Kampung Menawo Ulu, Keningau at 10:30 am.

He then attended a similar programme for the Melalap state constituency at Dewan Datuk OKK Sanggau Jalang, Tenom at 12:20 pm.

Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman, meanwhile attended two programmes, beginning with the launch of Sabah MyFutureJobs Career Carnival at Peranauan Inn D’Sangkir, Kota Belud, at 10:00 am.

At 3:00 pm, he is scheduled to attend the Sabah RISDA Smallholders Gathering at the Sabah International Convention Centre, Kota Kinabalu.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is also GRS Chairman, continued his campaign activities in Tuaran by holding a meeting with local communities at Dewan Bajau Samah at 11:00 am.

Meanwhile, PKR candidate for the Merotai state seat, Datuk Ruji Ubi, began his campaign day as early as 4:30 am by performing Subuh prayers at Kampung Haji Matahir Mosque.

He is also scheduled to conduct a series of walkabouts at several locations, including Restoran Santai Corner, Pasar Hotspring, Pasar Sin Onn, Hotspring Taman Ehsan, and to attend a thanksgiving prayer event at Kampung Muhibbah Raya.

Ruji will also visit Lorong New Asia and several other locations this afternoon before wrapping up his campaign schedule today with a small-group ‘ceramah’ at Hotspring Survey Supermarket at 8:00 pm.

In total, 596 candidates have been confirmed to contest 73 state seats in the state election, with PH fielding candidates in 22 seats, BN in 45 seats and GRS in 55 seats.
