KUCHING: Contingents from Sabah and Labuan began arriving at Kuching International Airport on Monday (Sept 22) for the Borneo Games Kuching (BGK) 2025.
They were warmly welcomed by the organising committee and representatives from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development.
A total of 74 athletes and officials from Sabah and 14 from Labuan were the first to arrive.
They will be joined on Sept 23 by another 16 participants from Sabah and 38 from Labuan, followed by 12 more from Labuan on Sept 24.
In total, the Sabah contingent comprise 90 athletes, coaches, and officials, while Labuan are fielding a 67-member team for this year’s edition.
Both Sabah and Labuan will compete in a range of events including athletics, swimming, football, badminton, netball, as well as traditional Borneo sports.
Their participation is not only aimed at winning medals but also at strengthening bonds of friendship and sporting spirit among Borneo’s regions.
Kicking off this week, BGK 2025 brings together athletes from Sarawak, Sabah, Labuan, and Brunei Darussalam, serving as an important platform to nurture new talent and foster regional cooperation in sports.
