KOTA KINABALU, Sabah: Two cousins from Kiulu are eagerly returning to their hometown to cast their ballots for the first time in the 17th Sabah State Election tomorrow.
Sharoll Swanne, 22, and Dane Alden Doroni, 21, from Kampung Mantob, will be voting at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Mantob for the Kiulu state seat.
“This is my first time voting and I’m really excited to fulfil my responsibility as a young voter,” said Sharoll, a student at Universiti Malaysia Sabah.
She said that neither the rain nor the long journey dampened their spirits.
“After voting tomorrow, we’ll return to Kota Kinabalu as we still have tasks to complete,” she told BERNAMA.
Dane said he had been looking forward to voting since the election was announced and immediately checked his eligibility and polling location.
“It feels meaningful to finally take part. I hope the elected representative will truly commit to helping the people of Kiulu,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ady Anthony, 28, from Kampung Papar, Tambunan, who is voting for the second time, said he also looks forward to returning home.
“It’s not as thrilling as the first time, but I’m happy to go back. Besides voting, I get to see my wife, child and family,” he said, noting that work keeps him busy and he can only return a few times a year.
