KOTA KINABALU, Sabah: The Election Commission (EC) announced that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Chairman, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, had successfully defended the Sulaman seat in the 17th Sabah State Election.
Meanwhile, Parti Warisan President, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, retained the Senallang seat.
According to the EC, Shafie, who is also the Member of Parliament for Semporna, won with a majority of 6,837 votes in a four-cornered contest.
Shafie defeated three other candidates – Datuk Marunda KK Ampong of GRS, Mohd Lipai @ Samsu Sundalu of Parti Impian Sabah, and Abdul Majid Angkulan of the Malaysian United People’s Party (BERSAMA).
In the 2020 state election, Shafie won the Senallang seat with a majority of 4,631 votes.
Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) President, Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, successfully defended the Tambunan seat.
Jeffrey, who has held the seat since 2018, retained the mandate after winning the seven-cornered contest with a majority of 7,311 votes.
He obtained 12,595 votes to defeat six other candidates, including those from GRS, Parti Warisan and Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM).
Tambunan has 29,187 registered voters and is one of the three state seats under the Keningau parliamentary constituency.
Meanwhile, UPKO President, Datuk Ewon Benedick, retains the Kadamaian seat.
Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) President, Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, won the Sook seat.
Arthur, who is also the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, defeated incumbent, Datuk Ellron Angin, of GRS, who has held the seat since 2008.
According to the official results announced by the EC, the Pensiangan Member of Parliament, who contested under the Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket, won the five-cornered contest with a 4,727-vote majority.
The Sook state seat has 20,349 registered voters and is one of three state seats under the Pensiangan parliamentary constituency, along with Tulid and Nabawan.
Sabah BN Chairman, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, successfully defended the Lamag seat.
According to the EC, Bung Moktar won with a slim majority of 153 votes in a six-cornered contest.
Lamag, which has 13,859 registered voters in this election, is one of three state constituencies in the Kinabatangan Parliamentary constituency.
In the 16th State Election in 2020, Bung Moktar won the Lamag seat, contested for the first time, with a majority of 661 votes.
