KUCHING: About 200 women from across Sarawak have joined Groomed and Gorgeous: A Journey to Confidence, a programme organised by the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Women’s Bureau at the Borneo Cultures Museum today (Aug 17).
The event featured renowned fashion designer Gillian Hung, better known as Mama G, who shares lessons from her 20-year career in Malaysia’s fashion industry.
This marked her first visit to Kuching in 30 years, providing a rare opportunity for local women to benefit from her expertise.
The event was officiated by Political Secretary to the Premier Dr Dayang Nurfizawaty Abang Abdul Karim on behalf of Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63, State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
Sharifah Hasidah said the programme was founded on the belief that every woman deserves to feel confident, beautiful, and empowered, not only outwardly but from within.
She also highlighted the significance of guidance from Mama G, describing her as a figure who embodies these values with elegance and passion.
“With her wealth of experience in fashion, etiquette, and personal development, Mama G has inspired countless women across Malaysia. Her presence here is a privilege, and we are grateful for her dedication to uplifting others through her work,” said Sharifah Hasidah in her text speech read out by Dayang Nurfizawaty.
Participants took part in a Grooming Talk, which covered personal style, body types, hair and make-up, fashion history, professional dressing, confidence building, and body language awareness.
The sessions also equipped attendees with practical skills to carry themselves with poise and self-assurance.
