SIBU: The Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) has long been one of the most profound and meaningful platforms for Sarawakian youth.

Highlighting this, Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, said that through its wide range of programmes and activities, SABERKAS plays a vital role in building character, developing leadership skills, and strengthening both the mind and body of young people.

“Through sports, we also nurture the noble values of sportsmanship, teamwork, and volunteerism. We believe deeply in our youth because they are the future leaders of our community and our state.

“It is through their energy, creativity, and determination that Sarawak will continue to grow – not only economically, but also as a place where families can thrive and communities can flourish.

“Together, we are building a better and greater Sarawak for generations to come,” he said when officiating at the SABERKAS Central Zone Sports Carnival 2025 held at SMI Park, Jalan Sungai Maaw, here today.

More than 700 participants from 18 SABERKAS branches across the Central Zone, along with representatives from various government agencies, took part in the event.

The Pelawan Assemblyman noted that the event was not only about competing in sports but also about celebrating unity, health, and friendship.

“The carnival is more than just games and matches; it is a powerful platform to promote and strengthen the bonds of unity among the SABERKAS family – a community that reflects the beautiful diversity of Sarawak, with members from all walks of life and ethnic backgrounds,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tiang expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the unsung heroes behind the event – the 80 tireless volunteers, generous sponsors, dedicated marshals, medical teams, and technical officials.

“Your hard work and support have made this carnival possible, and we owe you a big round of applause.

“To all participants, I wish you a wonderful, exciting, and safe time throughout this carnival. Play with passion, compete with integrity, and make new friendships along the way,” Tiang said in his closing remarks.

Also present was Bukit Assek Assemblyman, Joseph Chieng Jin Ek.
