MIRI: Saberkas Piasau Branch distributed 300 packs of ‘bubur lambuk’ to the public at Bintang Megamall here yesterday.
Saberkas Piasau Chairman, Yusuff Mohamad, explained that the distribution of ‘bubur lambuk’ is an annual Ramadan tradition of the organisation.
“The main objective of this programme is to allow people of various ethnic backgrounds to share ‘iftar’ meals and foster unity and friendship with one another,” he said through a press statement today.
The programme was run by a team led by Datuk Sebastian Ting, which included the secretary of SUPP Piasau Branch and Miri City Council member, Kelvin Chia, the Youth Chief of SUPP Piasau Branch and Miri City Council member, Leslie Lau, Deputy Secretary of SUPP Piasau Youth Branch and special secretary to Datuk Sebastian Ting, Chia Kah Frung, and Miri City Council member, Lisa Yu.
Additionally, the team also distributed 300 aprons to the public and food vendors at the event location.
Leslie explained that every year during Ramadan, Ting would donate aprons to Ramadan Bazaar vendors to promote hygiene and provide meaningful assistance to them.
He also emphasised that Sarawak had its own unique cultural identity.
‘Bubur lambuk’, he said, was a staple dish for breaking fast during Ramadan, traditionally shared with neighbours, relatives and community members.
“Through programmes like this, not only does the spirit of Ramadan is enhanced, but it also encourages charitable acts and strengthens the spirit of unity within the community,” he said.
