KUCHING: About 800 patients and healthcare workers at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) received festive cheer today when the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) Batu Lintang branch paid a Chinese New Year visit to the hospital.
Members of the organisation distributed mandarin oranges and red packets to patients on the hospital’s eighth and ninth floors, as well as young patients in the children’s ward and staff on duty.
Batu Lintang state assemblyman, See Chee How, said that the annual programme has been a long-standing tradition of SABERKAS for more than a decade.
“Every year during the festive season, SABERKAS visits the hospital to hand out oranges and small tokens to patients and staff. It is a meaningful initiative that has been going on for over 10 years,” he said.

He explained that the purpose of the visit was to remind patients and frontline workers that they are not forgotten while others celebrate with their families.
“We want them to know that we remember them and wish them well. For the patients, we hope they recover quickly.
“For the doctors, nurses and hospital staff who are sacrificing their holidays to continue serving, we want to express our appreciation,” he added.
See also commended the dedication and professionalism of the hospital’s healthcare personnel, describing them as among the best in the country.
Also present was political secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Kho Teck Wan, and SABERKAS Batu Lintang chairman, Patrick Tan.
