KUCHING: A RM30,000 Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant was presented to Sacred Heart Church, Kota Sentosa, to support construction of its new bell tower.
The grant was delivered during a visit by Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap.
“The church bell is more than a structure or instrument; it symbolises faith, unity and hope, calling believers to prayer and marking sacred moments,” he said.
He noted that for generations, church bells have reminded communities of spiritual presence while serving as a constant source of comfort, reflection and collective identity among believers.
“The bell tower also acts as a unifying landmark, bringing parishioners together across ages and backgrounds during celebrations, mourning, and collective prayer.”
“Religious structures often play roles beyond worship, serving as centres for compassion, outreach and mutual support within surrounding neighbourhoods.
“It reminds us that the church stands not only for faith, but also for service, care and togetherness within the wider community.”
He stressed that support for places of worship contributes directly to Sarawak’s long-standing harmony among diverse cultural and religious communities.
“When we strengthen our places of worship, we strengthen shared values such as kindness, respect and unity in diversity.”
He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive development that respects cultural, religious and spiritual needs of all residents in Kota Sentosa.
He added that his service approach prioritises collaboration with community leaders to ensure development initiatives remain people-centred and socially balanced.
The MRP grant is part of ongoing constituency allocations aimed at supporting grassroots infrastructure, community facilities and social wellbeing initiatives.
Representatives of Sacred Heart Church expressed appreciation for the contribution, noting it would significantly assist ongoing construction efforts.
“The bell tower project is expected to enhance the church’s role as a spiritual and communal landmark for parishioners in Kota Sentosa.”
