KUCHING: Sarawak Teachers’ Union (STU) agrees with the announcement made by Minister of Health Khairy Jamaluddin to no longer use masks indoor.
STU president Kullin Djayang however stressed on safe precautions which are still necessary especially in school buses, vans, laboratories, libraries and also during group activities.
“This is because we do not know the movement of the students before.
“However, if it is for extracurricular activities and sports, the relaxation of wearing a mask or not should be given to the students,” he said in a statement today.
STU opines that maybe rural schools are safer in terms of practicing no masks indoor due to the movement of students in rural areas or dormitories, which is more limited than urban schools.
He added that the practice of social distancing, lining up and the distancing of tables and chairs arrangements in the classroom is good for disciplining students.
“This is to conform to our positive civilization and culture as well as to train the community to think with a first class mentality,” he said.
Kullin also called for the public to be vigilant in efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and urged for self-discipline to be instilled as well as a clean environment to remain a priority.
