BINTULU: A landslide occurred on Jan 29 on the slope between Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd (BPSB) and the Pusaka LPG bottling plant due to continuous heavy rain.
According to a statement from the Corporate Relations Department of Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad, the landslide caused erosion that exposed about one-fifth of the foundation of a water reservoir.
However, the overall structure of the water tank remains intact and does not affect its integrity or safety.
As a precautionary measure, the BPSB has emptied the water from the tank to avoid further risk.
According to the statement, the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) bottling plant Pusaka Integrated Resources Sdn Bhd (PIRSB), which operates nearby, was also affected by this incident.
BPSB is working closely with PIRSB and the relevant authorities, including the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), to deal with the erosion problem and ensure safety measures are implemented immediately.
“We at Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad would like to emphasise that the safety of all parties, including staff, stakeholders, and the local community, is our priority.
“We will continue to work with all stakeholders to support PIRSB in restoring their operations and ensure there is no further harm or disruption,” the statement added.
BPSB also apologised for any inconvenience caused by this incident and promised to take the necessary steps to overcome the issue immediately.
