DARO Assemblyman, Safiee Ahmad, wanted to know the latest status in regard to the two federal projects that had been approved in his constituency.

The projects are the construction of roads to Rumah Jingga/David Multifarm/Rumah Seli/Rumah Guang/SK Singat, Sungai Lengan in Sibu Division under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKDW), and the construction of a new SK Batang Lassa under the Federal Ministry of Education (MOE).

He was informed that all matters related to land acquisition and compensation payments have been fully completed by the Land and Survey Department.

“In this regard, as the assemblyman, I respectfully request that the implementation of both projects be expedited, as they are urgently needed and play a vital role in improving the socioeconomic conditions and well-being of the people, especially in rural areas.

“Furthermore, any delay in carrying out these projects may lead to other issues, such as an increase in the cost of building materials, which could require a Notice of Change (NOC) to obtain additional funding ultimately causing further delays in the implementation of these projects,” he said.

He said this when debating in support of the motion of appreciation to the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s speech in the August house today.

Safiee would like to seek clarification regarding the development method or implementation plan that is currently being planned or will be carried out for the 500-hectare Daro Paddy Project under the ‘RM1 Billion Development of Paddy Irrigation Scheme’.

“In addition, I would also like to take this opportunity to call for the prompt implementation of the Proposed Development of Drainage Infrastructure at Sungai Ilas/Sebena (Block A3) to further boost agricultural output, particularly fruits, in Sungai Ilas, Meradong, which is well known as the ‘Food Basket’ of the Sarikei Division.

“Daro actually has the potential to become a pioneering model for smart farming in coastal areas, including the use of IoT (Internet of Things) systems for water and fertilizer control, as well as full mechanization to rekindle interest among the younger generation in paddy farming.

“If given serious attention, Daro could directly contribute to Sarawak’s goal of becoming a food exporter, while also boosting the rural economy through modern agri-food initiatives,” he said.
