SARIKEI: Former Sarawak footballer and local sports figure, Safri Amit, has launched a new initiative to revive football in the Sarikei Division through the formation of the Safri Amit Football Club (SA FC).

The club aims to build a strong football foundation from the grassroots level, providing a structured platform to nurture young talent in a systematic and professional manner – ultimately restoring Sarikei’s footballing prominence.

Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, described the initiative as a golden opportunity for the younger generation to develop their potential under proper guidance.

“I fully support this initiative and am ready to provide the necessary assistance, as it not only contributes to sports development but also strengthens the spirit of our local youth,” Len said.

He made this remark during the official jersey handover ceremony for the Sarikei team competing in the Divisional Schools Sports Council (MSSB) tournament on Thursday.

Len, who is also Kuala Rajang Assemblyman, also observed the team’s training session led by Safri at the Sarikei Sports Complex.

Also present were Sarikei Football Association President, Abang Zaini Abang Ismail, and Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) Vice-President and chairman of football development and technical, Khairuddin Qalam Daud.
