Sagah officiates ‘Ibu Pertiwi’ flag-raising ceremony

KUCHING: Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn officiated the February edition of the ‘Ibu Pertiwi’ Flag-Raising Ceremony held at Dataran Pertiwi here today.

The ceremony, organised by Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara (DBKU), saw the symbolic ‘Ibu Pertiwi’ flag hoisted with full ceremonial traditions.

Present at the ceremony were Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak; Datuk Hilmy Othman, Mayor of Kuching North; Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak; Datuk Mohammad Junaidi Mohidin, Director of Yayasan Sarawak; Professor Emeritus Datuk Ts Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, Vice-Chancellor of i-CATS University College; and Anielia Siam, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak.

Also in attendance was Omar Mahli, Director of Education Sarawak.

The flag, measuring 25 metres in length and 12.4 metres in width, was raised on a 99.4-metre-high pole, recognised as the tallest flagpole in Malaysia and Southeast Asia by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR).

The event began with an ‘Honour Guard’ parade by DBKU personnel, followed by the singing of Sarawak’s state anthem, Ibu Pertiwi.

The ceremony was further enlivened by a special cultural performance by the St Joseph’s Secondary School Marching Band Kuching, showcasing Sarawak’s diverse heritage and racial harmony.

DBKU said the ‘Ibu Pertiwi’ Flag-Raising Ceremony, held at the beginning of the month, is an initiative to strengthen patriotism and unity among Sarawakians.

DBKU views the ceremony as a platform to express love for the homeland by proudly flying the ‘Ibu Pertiwi’ flag at Kuching’s iconic landmarks, reinforcing civic pride and patriotism in line with the state leadership’s aspirations.
