ENGKILILI: Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development), Datuk Seri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, recently conducted a working visit to the SALCRA Lubok Antu Palm Oil Mill 2 (LAPOM).
Upon arrival, Abdullah and his delegation were received by SALCRA general manager, Datuk Joseph Blandoi, and members of the agency’s technical team.
The visit began with a briefing before the group was taken on a tour of the mill’s facilities.
During the session, Joseph highlighted SALCRA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen circular economy practices within its operations.
He said LAPOM generates several waste streams with strong potential for sustainable waste-management initiatives and the completion of the SALCRA Kernel Crushing Plant in the second quarter of this year.
The RM23-million facility has an annual capacity of 30,000 metric tonnes, and its by-products are expected to serve as key raw materials for the Oil Palm-Based Animal Feed Project.
The team also introduced Palm Kernel Expeller (PKE), a coarse, fibrous residue produced during palm kernel oil extraction that is high in protein and suitable for animal feed formulations.
Abdullah said the initiatives not only offer practical waste-management solutions but also contribute to strengthening food security.
