Salesman fined for false police report to evade compensation for embezzlement

KUCHING: A salesman was fined RM800 or sentenced to 14 days in jail by the Magistrates’ Court on today (July 26) after pleading guilty to making a false police report.

The report was made with the intention of avoiding payment of RM10,000 in compensation to his employer, which he had embezzled.

The charge under Section 182 of the Penal Code was read before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan, and the offence was committed at the Batu 10 Police Station on May 28, 2022, around 4.47am.

The accused, Sim Ming Kuang, 33, could have faced imprisonment for up to six months, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both if found guilty.

According to the facts presented in the case, the complainant, a police officer, was investigating a theft case reported by the accused.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the report made by the accused, claiming that his bag containing RM10,000 belonging to his employer, was stolen, turned out to be false and did not occur.

The accused confessed that he made the false report because he had used the money to pay off debts owed to his friend.

Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang conducted the prosecution while the accused was not represented by legal counsel.
