SAMARAHAN: Kota Samarahan Member of Parliament, Datuk Rubiah Wang, says a proposal for a new football field, potentially featuring a synthetic pitch, is being explored as demand for quality playing facilities continues to grow in the district.
The Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development said the initiative is aimed at providing better facilities for the football community in Samarahan, where the increasing number of tournaments has highlighted the need for additional playing venues.
She said the Football Association of Samarahan has long aspired to have its own field, noting that the district currently has only a limited number of pitches and relies heavily on facilities provided by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and several other institutions.
“We are grateful to UNIMAS and the institutions that have allowed us to use their facilities.
“However, we hope to provide a more comfortable and permanent venue for football activities in Samarahan,” she told reporters after the Samarahan Division Football Association (PBBS) President’s Cup final at Kota Samarahan Open Stadium on Saturday (July 18).
Rubiah said the association is currently identifying suitable land that can be proposed to the relevant authorities and local leaders to turn the vision into reality.
She noted that synthetic pitches are becoming increasingly popular and have been frequently requested by the local football community.
“I have received many suggestions and feedback regarding the need for a synthetic field, and we are taking the matter seriously.
“We will continue working towards it and seek the cooperation of all stakeholders. God-willing, with the support of various parties, we hope this aspiration will one day become a reality,” she added.
