KUCHING: The 2025 Sarawak Cup is heading to Samarahan, where top sepak takraw action will take place from June 20 to 22.
The announcement was made by Sarawak Sepaktakraw Association (PSS) President, Datuk Ismail Abang Saufi, who added that the association is currently evaluating two potential venues for the tournament – the Samarahan Indoor Stadium or Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).
Ismail shared that the event will also celebrate PSS’ 60th anniversary.
“Originally, we planned to hold it at the end of April, but since we also want to organise a dinner event to mark the 60th anniversary of PSS, the date was changed.
“Unfortunately, the Minister and most of the officers from SSC and MSNS will be away during that period, so we decided to wait for a more suitable time.
“We’re now hoping to hold the Sarawak Cup alongside the anniversary dinner,” he said when met at his Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House in Petra Jaya on Wednesday.
He added that this year’s Sarawak Cup will feature many young players to give them exposure to competitive-level tournaments.
In addition, the association is planning to introduce a women’s team for the prestigious championship.
“This way, we can provide more exposure to both female players and young talents,” Ismail added.
He further explained that the tournament format is still under discussion and will be finalised soon.
Among those present at the open house were members of the PSS executive committee and coaching staff.
