KUCHING: National rugby player Samuel Rentap Meran, who plays for Muamalat Bullets, is staying positive after suffering a serious hand injury during the Corporate Super Rugby League.
A metacarpal fracture in the Sarawakian’s pointing finger forced him to undergo surgery, ruling him out for the rest of the 2025 season and putting his participation in the Asia Rugby Championship play-off against Sri Lanka in April at risk.
Despite the setback, Samuel remains upbeat.
“This injury is a time for me to reflect and focus on other aspects of my life—work, family, relationships, and my spiritual connection with God,” he said.
Samuel is also focusing on coaching, particularly with the Cobra Rugby Academy, which will compete in the Super Schools Rugby event this year.
While the injury is difficult, Samuel remains determined to return to rugby by mid-year and regain his spot in the national team.
“Hand injuries are nothing compared to more serious ones,” he said, emphasising his commitment to healing, training, and coming back stronger.
His positive outlook and resilience have earned him support from the rugby community, who have flooded his social media with well wishes for a speedy recovery.
