KUCHING: A young man from Tabuan Heights who pleaded not guilty to two separate charges of injuring his two friends was released on bail Sunday.

Sessions Court Judge Mohd Taufik Mohd @ Mohd Yusof released Alan Ong Wei Hua, 20, on a RM5,000 bail with two local sureties each earning RM2,500 a month.

Ong was charged with injuring his friend Anthony Gan Kang Chiew with four others who are at large by using a samurai at 3.30am on Jan 7 at a worker’s room at Jalan Mendu here.

The case will be re-mentioned on June 17.

In a separate courtroom, Ong was also released on RM8,000 bail with two local sureties with fixed residence address and permanent employment and each with a salary of not less than RM3,000 a month.

Sessions Court judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad set the case for re-mention on May 29.

For this case, Ong was charged with severely injuring his friend Yap Po Soon at 1am at KMC Flats, Jalan Ban Hock on August 6, 2018.

He faces two charges under Section 326 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum penalty of 20 years’ jail and liable to a fine or whipping.

Deputy prosecutor Nurfadlin Mahmad Zulhasnan prosecuted in both cases.
