KUCHING: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS) has equipped the Santubong Health Clinic with basic medical equipment worth RM53,042 as part of its Social Impact Programme.

This initiative, aimed at improving healthcare accessibility and services in rural Sarawak, is a collaboration between PETRONAS, the Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Sarawak (SABATI), and the Sarawak State Health Department (JKNS).

The handover ceremony, held at Santubong Health Clinic near here today (July 18), saw PETRONAS Sarawak general manager Norazibah M Rabu presenting the equipment to the JKNS.

The event was witnessed by Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication cum Pantai Damai assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

Norazibah said for this project, PETRONAS has identified 26 rural clinics across all 12 divisions in Sarawak to receive basic medical equipment assistance, with a total allocation of RM1.3 million.

“We at PETRONAS share the aspirations of the Sarawak government to achieve health equity by providing access to comprehensive and quality healthcare facilities.

“As PETRONAS celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, we have prepared various special programmes with strategic partners and the community, with the climax starting at the end of July and continuing into August.

“Upcoming programmes include the Orchid Run & Ride in Bintulu in early August, where all registration fees will be donated to The National Cancer Society of Malaysia, the Sarawak Thalassaemia Society, the Special Care Nursery Ward at Bintulu Hospital, and the NKF – Kidney Association of Sarawak,” she said.

The equipment provided includes vital tools such as a dressing trolley, digital thermometers, a handheld pulse oximeter, a fetal doppler, a hospital bed, and non-medical equipment such as laptop, examination couch, office chairs, and file cabinets.

Since last year, PETRONAS has distributed medical equipment to various clinics, including the Nanga Mujau Health Clinic in Spak, Betong, and, in 2024, to Sadong Jaya, Samarahan Division, and Medamit, Limbang Health Clinic.

Four additional rural clinics – Sundar, Lawas Health Clinic; Batang Ai, Lubok Antu Health Clinic; Simunjan Health Clinic; and Balingian, Mukah Health Clinic – are set to receive equipment this year, with the remaining 18 clinics to be equipped in stages by 2025.

Also present were SABATI honorary treasurer Datin Siti Shorgayah Ahmad Zaidin and exco member Datin Rosemarie Wong-Jabu.
