BAU: The search continues for a man reported missing after failing to return home from a fishing trip last Wednesday.

Day Three of the search and rescue (SAR) operations was carried out by the police and local villagers.

When contacted on Monday (Feb 8), district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon confirmed that the man’s friend tested positive for drugs and the case was still under investigation.

Last Sunday, SAR operations were halted at 5pm following investigation and discussion by the firefighters and police.

Police investigation revealed that the victim’s friend admitted that both of them took syabu while out fishing.

“Thus, this could have made the victim scared and hence it was difficult for rescuers to find him as he could be hiding,” said Bau fire chief Tawang Lingem.

Rescuers had also enlisted the help of a K9 unit. It was earlier reported that the man, 28, went fishing with his friend near Kampung Bijuray on Wednesday evening.

On the way back, both went through a forest. However, the friend was unaware the man, who was walking behind, had gone missing.
