MUKAH: A brother and sister were reported missing after being swept away by strong currents at Jambatan Kuning, Batang Mukah yesterday.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victims have been identified as 10-year-old Dexper Kiu Kuang Wei and seven-year-old Susie Kiu.

According to their mother, the incident occurred at around 3.50 pm when she and her children were bathing at Batang Mukah.

She said her children were suddenly pulled under by the current as they were unable to swim.

Despite her attempts to save them, she was unsuccessful, prompting her to alert the authorities for assistance.

Firefighters from Mukah station together with the police and Civil Defence Force (APM) were dispatched to the scene to launch a search and rescue (SAR) operation.

The search was carried out using water surface searching and grappling iron technique to locate the missing victims, and the Bomba K-9 unit was also roped in to assist in the operation.
