SAR underway after express boat passenger falls overboard

SARIKEI: A search and rescue (SAR) operation is underway for a passenger who fell from an express boat into the Sungai Paloh estuary yesterday (Mar 29).

The incident happened at around 1.20 pm while the boat was en route from Sarikei to Kampung Paloh.

The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Awang Indera Awang Mahmud.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Tanjung Manis station were dispatched to the scene, about 25km away, following an emergency call.

As of now, the search is ongoing with no new updates from authorities.

Meanwhile, Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anis urged those with information on the incident to contact Belawai police station chief Sgt Rafiee Berawi at 016-5227983.
