DARO: A frantic search is underway after a six-year-old girl was feared to have fallen into Sungai Daro near Kampung Panchor today (Feb 1).

It was reported that the girl, whose identity is not known, had left her family home on her own through the back door without her parents noticing.

Her father later discovered footprints believed to belong to his daughter leading towards the riverbank, prompting him to alert rescue agencies.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Daro station were dispatched to the scene following a distress call at 2.28 pm.

A joint search-and-rescue (SAR) operation was immediately launched with assistance from the police and Civil Defence Force (APM).

Search efforts are focused along the riverbanks and the forested area behind the house within a 500-metre radius.

Villagers also joined the operation, using boats to scour both upstream and downstream stretches of Sungai Daro, while others comb the nearby forest.

At the time of writing, the girl had yet to be found.
