MARUDI: SaraCarbon distributed school uniforms and shoe vouchers to 338 students from 12 villages to equip them for the upcoming school term.
According to its statement, the beneficiaries — spanning kindergarten, primary, and secondary levels — each received a voucher redeemable for two pairs of school uniforms and one pair of shoes.
The sponsorship aims to ease families’ financial burden and ensure students are well-prepared for the new school term during the heavy flood season.
“The vouchers distributed today allow ample time for students to prepare before the new school term begins on Feb 17,” it said.
Commenting on the initiative, SaraCarbon chief executive officer Lawrence Chia emphasised that education is the most powerful tool for changing the world.
“At SaraCarbon, we believe in the importance of SDG 4 because quality education is a fundamental human right. It helps people build social skills, understand their culture, and acquire the training needed for jobs.
“It is also a key driver of positive transformation in our Marudi community,” he said.
He added that by providing essential school supplies, the initiative promotes access to education and fosters confidence and pride among students as they begin their academic year.
“Recipients have already been informed about the sponsorship and advised to wait for the vouchers before making purchases.
“SaraCarbon has also coordinated with local vendors to ensure a smooth redemption process for all beneficiaries,” he added.
Chia reaffirmed that this initiative is part of SaraCarbon’s ongoing commitment to sustainable development and improving the quality of life in the Marudi Carbon Project area.
“The company remains dedicated to fostering long-term partnerships with local stakeholders and exploring new ways to empower future generations through education and community-driven projects,” he said.
