BETONG: Apart from the need to create a new Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) office in Saratok, the government has also been asked to consider upgrading the existing Betong APM office.

Betong District APM officer Lt (APM) Desem Samuel said Betong Division covered a wide area. “It definitely needs components like other government agencies so that the delivery of APM services becomes more orderly and effective.”

“Therefore, we see the need to establish an APM office in Saratok, at the same time we urged that the existing Betong APM office be refurbished.

“This is due to the building, which has now been in use for more than a decade, in dire need of an upgrade,” he said at the district-level 70th anniversary of APM here on Thursday (March 24).

“Currently, Betong APM has one permanent officer, 32 contract members of various ranks, looking after Betong Division.

“Their commitment is strong, especially during the Covid-19 outbreak, even though some had to be away from their families.

“Some were infected but after finishing their quarantine, they returned and continued their duties as usual, working alongside other frontline agencies.

“Thus, I want to thank, and praise them, for their commitment. Well done!”

Lt Desem hoped that more people would join APM. “I hope the Public Service Department (JPA) would approve applications for permanent and contract personnel as well as provide employment opportunities to youths.”

At the ceremony, 18 members were promoted. Lt Desem also presented the Pingat Am medal and Covid-19 campaign certificate to those involved.
