KUALA LUMPUR: Saratok’s very own Janting Tingom has made Sarawak proud after emerging as the overall champion in the Science and Technology category at the prestigious UG i-Fest 2025, Malaysia’s largest final year project (FYP) showcase.

The Universiti Malaya (UM) final-year student from the Faculty of Engineering stood out among more than 2,600 entries spanning 16 faculties, cementing his name in what is being hailed as the biggest academic innovation platform ever organised in the country’s higher education landscape.

His winning project, titled __ ‘Performance Evaluation of Palm Oil Clinker (POC) Powder as an Additive in Warm Mix Asphalt Design’, explores the use of waste from the palm oil industry as an eco-friendly and cost-effective material for road construction, a breakthrough with potential national implications.

Guided by fellow Sarawakian and UM lecturer Dr Suhana Koting, Janting’s work not only reflects academic excellence but also reinforces the growing presence of Sarawakian talent in key scientific and technological fields.

For his achievement, Janting received a RM3,000 cash prize along with a full scholarship to further his studies at the master’s level at the university itself.

The recognition stands as a significant milestone for the Saratok native, symbolising both personal triumph and shared pride for the wider Sarawakian community.
